Program Director & Faculty Advisor

Katie Bigart, MS, RDN, LD

Katie completed her undergraduate degree in Biology and Psychology at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, Ohio.  She earned a Masters Degree in Public Health Nutrition and completed her dietetic internship at CWRU.  During her graduate experience Katie worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of Community Dentistry at CWRU, where she studied the effectiveness of motivational interviewing in adolescents, helping guide them toward proper nutritional goals and action plans. During her time at CWRU, Katie also gained nutrition and dietetic experience in a variety of practice settings.

Katie began her career as a K-12 school nutrition consultant for Pisanick Partners, LLC in Cleveland, OH, where she developed, analyzed, and implemented USDA compliant menus for 13 Northeast Ohio School Districts. She also provided Administrative Review preparation for school kitchen audits and trained staff on Professional Standards for State and Local Nutrition Programs.

Katie then joined Be Well Solutions as an Account Manager and Wellness Dietitian.  During this time she helped to develop worksite wellness programs for a variety of corporate, public and municipal clients.  Katie coordinated and managed health screenings, performed individual nutritional consultations, group presentations and served and facilitated client wellness committee meetings.

Katie is a certified Health Coach through the American College of Exercise and embraces the balance of an active and healthy lifestyle, filled with hiking, weightlifting, cooking and movies.  She loves spending quality time with her husband, boy/girl twins and two dogs.

BWS DI Associate Director and Faculty Advisor, Tristyn Patrick

Associate Director & Faculty Advisor

Tristyn Patrick, MS, MBA, RDN, LD

Tristyn completed her undergraduate studies at Williams College, where she graduated magna cum laude with a degree in English literature. She went on to receive her MBA from Harvard Business School, subsequently working in the fields of investment banking, strategy consulting, and academic publishing. After a long career in business, Tristyn decided to pursue her passion for nutrition full-time. She earned her master’s degree in Public Health Nutrition from Case Western Reserve University, completing CWRU’s coordinated dietetic internship program to become a registered dietitian. Her internship included rotations at Orange City Schools, MetroHealth Broadway Health Center, DaVita Dialysis, Cuyahoga County WIC, Hillcrest Hospital, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA.

After completing her master’s, Tristyn stayed on at CWRU to teach nutrition courses at the undergraduate level. She then joined Be Well Solutions as a Wellness Dietitian, playing an integral role in many of BWS’s corporate wellness activities, including biometric screenings, one-on-one client counseling, and educational seminars. Her areas of specialization include gastrointestinal disorders, plant-based dietary patterns, diabetes management, weight loss, and healthy weight gain. She became a Faculty Advisor for BWS DI’s second cohort, and has enjoyed mentoring interns ever since.

In her free time, Tristyn takes in as many of Cleveland’s wonderful art exhibits, plays, lectures and films as she can. She also enjoys hiking, skiing, fitness classes, and spending time with her husband and two college-aged children.

Marketing Manager

Maureen Daugherty, MS, RDN, LD

Maureen completed her undergraduate degree in marketing at Cleveland State University. Before starting a nutrition and dietetics career, Maureen worked in the marketing department at Vitamix, where she supported marketing strategy and social media efforts. Wanting to pursue nutrition full-time, Maureen returned to school and earned a master’s degree in nutrition at Kent State University and completed her dietetic internship with Be Well Solutions (class of Fall 2020).

Some of Maureen’s internship rotations were with the Greater Cleveland Foodbank, Integrative Nutrition and Wellness Center, Cleveland Metropolitan School District, and Broadview Multi-Care Center. Since becoming a registered dietitian, Maureen gained experience working in the food industry, helping to advance nutrition, health, and wellness initiatives with some of Nestlé’s leading brands.

In her free time, Maureen enjoys spending time with her husband, puppy, and family/friends. Exploring Cleveland’s many restaurants, coffee shops, and scenic walking trails are also some of her favorite activities.

Faculty Advisor

Trisha Sterringer, MS, RDN, CSCS

Trisha earned a bachelor’s in Sports Dietetics from the University of Cincinnati and completed her dietetic internship and Master of Science in Public Health Nutrition at Case Western Reserve University. In addition to being a registered dietitian, Trisha is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Trisha joined the BWS team in 2018 as a Wellness Dietitian and became a faculty advisor for the BWS Dietetic Internship in 2019. She served as the Director of Nutrition Services for Be Well Solutions in 2020 before making the difficult decision to leave and pursue her PhD in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise at Virginia Tech.

Outside of school and work, Trisha is an avid runner. She has completed several marathons, including Boston, and a 50-mile ultramarathon. Trisha also enjoys hiking in the mountains, camping, trying out new plant-based recipes, listening to live music, and watching history and science documentaries.

Faculty Advisor

Lindy Abed, MS, RDN, LD

Lindy completed her undergraduate degree in Dietetics at Michigan State University. She earned her Master’s Degree in Public Health Nutrition at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). Lindy also completed her dietetic internship at CWRU which included clinical, community, and research rotations.

Upon completing her internship, Lindy began her career as a clinical dietitian in Naples, Florida, working in a variety of clinical settings including skilled nursing facilities, a peritoneal dialysis clinic, and an acute care facility. Most recently, she was the Nutrition Services Director for Core Health Partners (CHP), a company with a clinic-to-community model that provides nutrition counseling and diabetes self-management education within the YMCAs of Collier County Florida. Lindy joined the Be Well Solutions team as a faculty advisor in late 2021.

In her free time, Lindy loves spending quality time with her husband and three young children. She also enjoys reading, fitness classes, crafting, and trying out new recipes.

Faculty Advisor

Sam Chin, MS, RDN, LD

Sam earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics at Michigan State University and completed his dietetic internship and Master of Science in Public Health Nutrition at Case Western Reserve University. During his dietetic internship at Case Western, he was given the Charlotte E. Smith Award, which is given to a student who demonstrates outstanding academic performance in Public Health Nutrition and possesses potential for success in the chosen field of emphasis.

Sam started his career as a Bariatric Dietitian at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center, where he conducted pre- and post- operative nutrition counseling, lead support group classes, and created cooking videos to give his patients the resources to achieve sustainable weight loss. Sam then took a job at Olmsted Falls City Schools, where he currently serves as the Food Service Director. In this role, he creates menus that meet USDA school nutrition guidelines, oversees the cafeteria operations in each school, and leads the school district wellness committee.

In his free time, Sam enjoys going on long hikes and will take any chance he gets to be out in nature. He also enjoys cooking, restaurant hopping, playing guitar, and watching sports.

Faculty Advisor

Susan E. Adams, MS, RDN, LD, FAND

Susan Adams completed her undergraduate degree in food and nutrition with a minor in business and communications at The University of Akron and her graduate degree in nutrition at Kent State University.  Her master’s thesis focused on nutrition education of Type II diabetics and the impact that their spouses/significant others had on the diabetics’ nutrition knowledge and retention of knowledge.

As a Registered Dietitian, Susan Adams has over forty years of professional experience including managing foodservice departments in hospitals and employee feeding operations, counseling a variety of outpatient clients in proper nutrition principles to regain health, evaluation and demonstration of consumer kitchen equipment, menu development, employee training, and employee wellness consulting.  Since 2001, Susan has taught undergraduate nutrition students and dietetic interns at La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Susan has extensive experience as a consultant to numerous assisted living accounts in the Philadelphia area where she helps senior residents to live healthier lives partly through good nutrition.

In 2012, Susan was awarded the “Outstanding Dietetic Educator in a Coordinated Program” for the State of Pennsylvania and in 2022 she received the “Outstanding Dietitian” award from the Pennsylvania Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.  An active member of many professional organizations, she currently serves the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as a Member of The Academy’s Quality Management Committee and is a former delegate to the Academy’s House of Delegates.  She is a Fellow of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (FAND).

In her spare time, Susan enjoys spending time with her husband Greg, her dog Tucker and visiting with her two adult children and her new granddaughter.  She likes to walk daily and enjoys cooking for her family and friends.   Susan believes that food and positive nutrition has the power to help us lead healthy lives and she enjoys helping educate the next generation and the greatest generation.

Faculty Advisor

Madeline McDonough, MS, RDN, LD

Madeline is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist originally from Cleveland, Ohio. She received a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from Miami University and continued on at Miami to earn a Master of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Health Promotion. Madeline completed her dietetic internship with Be Well Solutions and then continued on to specialize as a private practice Eating Disorder Dietitian in Boston. She has training in Intuitive Eating® and is passionate about providing nutrition education that is approachable and empowering.

Currently, Madeline works as the Campus Dietitian at Northwestern University, where her role is to provide nutrition education and training to the campus community. She also implements corporate programs for wellness and serves as a student advocate for students with food allergies and dietary needs.

Madeline also enjoys writing and has contributed to several media outlets such as POPSUGAR, Insider, and Everyday Health. In her free time, Madeline enjoys cooking, live music, travel, running, yoga and spending time with family and friends. Most recently, she traveled to Nosara, Costa Rica for a yoga retreat.

Administrative Assistant

Tammy Humphries

Tammy completed her undergraduate degree in Sociology at Cleveland State University. She worked at several investment companies as an Executive Assistant and as a Trading Assistant handling back-office functions. Tammy joined BWS DI in the fall of 2022 and assists with organization, coordination, and communication for the Intern classes.   Tammy is passionate about health and wellness and is excited to be part of a company that supports healthy lifestyle practices.

In her free time, she enjoys walking/hiking, biking, fitness classes, and spending time with family and friends.
